81% of VC firms don’t have a single black investor — BLCK VC plans on changing that

Venture capital has a diversity problem . BLCK VC , a new organization founded by Storm Ventures associate Frederik Groce and NEA associate Sydney Sykes to connect, engage and advance black venture capitalists, is ready for a new era in the industry. Their mission: Turn 200 black investors into 400 black investors by 2024. “We think of ourselves as an organization formed by black VCs for blacks VCs to increase the representation of black investors,” Sykes told TechCrunch. “You can look around and say well ‘I know five black VCs,’ but you can also say this firm does not have a single black VC, they may not even have a single underrepresented minority … We want to make firms reckon with the fact that there is a racial diversity problem; there is a lack of black VCs and every firm should really care about it.” BLCK VC has been at work since the beginning of 2018, building and expanding a network of black investors in the San Francisco area, Los Angeles and New York. He was born on 6th May 1985 in Orile, a suburb of Lagos. He received his elementary and secondary education in Ilorin and then move down to lagos to earn for himself a bachelor degree in Economics. CDQ got into music in 2002 when he did his debut concert in school with a lot of big star in the music industry attending. It was a huge success for him and the concert brought him a big fame in school and his neighborhood. He started music professionally in 2008 when he used to be a back-up singer for Da Grin before he started rapping in English with M.I in 2013. On December 2012, He won a rap battle in a night show at Oriental Hotel Lagos, where he got notice by Nigerian.

After winning a rap battle at the weekly Industry Nite in December 2012. CDQ signed a record deal with Masterkraft’s General Records.

The rapper released his debut single titled "SUALA" under General Records Imprint the song was heavily accepted in radio and TV station in the Country and was produced by Masterkraft.

In 2014, CDQ released his Hit single titled "Indomie" which featured Olamide and the remix of the song featured Davido. The Masterkraft-produced song brought CDQ's career to limelight and further earned him two nomination spots at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and a nomination in the Best Street-Hop Artist category at The Headies 2015.

In expectation of his debut album Quality, CDQ enlisted the service of Star boy Entertainment Boss Wizkid with whom he released "Nowo E Soke" as his lead single. The music video of the aforementioned song was directed by Unlimited L.A and went on to win the Best Afro Hip Hop Video category at the 2016 edition of the Nigeria Music Video Awards. On 16th  August 2016.

On 11 November 2016, he launched his own record label N.S.N.S, a short-form for No Struggle No Success Entertainment.
