81% of VC firms don’t have a single black investor — BLCK VC plans on changing that

Venture capital has a diversity problem . BLCK VC , a new organization founded by Storm Ventures associate Frederik Groce and NEA associate Sydney Sykes to connect, engage and advance black venture capitalists, is ready for a new era in the industry. Terry Alexander Ejeh better known as (Terry Apala) is a Nigerian recording artist and performer born on 31th October 1988 in Ajegunle, Lagos. Hails from Isoko in Delta state. Terry received his Elementary and Secondary Education in Lagos. He began his music career at a tender age and has been doing music for 20 years starting out in the Church as a drummer to the streets and the entertainment industry in Nigeria.

His Quick rise to fame started with a peak performance with his now defunct R&B group; Mezo Soprano where he was the lead vocalist and earned them the first prize during the launch of the Kanu Heart foundation in 2000. The progress positioned them to perform alongside the music masters, Orlando Julius and ever since then, he hasn’t looked back.

Terry describes his style of music as “Apala Hip-Hip”. He mentioned late haruna Ishola as his musical influence.

Terry admits the influence of music legend haruna Ishola, but what’s more exciting is what he has done with it, a blend he calls Apala Hiphop. It features the tremulous, oscillating voice quality that is the trademark of Apala music,laced over catchy hiphop beats. Hit singles released  include "Champagne Shower"," Modernize", "Omidan" and "Mo popular”.

The success of these singles earned him nominations like 2016 Rookie of the year Awards by Headies, Most promising Act to watch at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. And he won Indigenous Act of the year at the Scream Awards.

Although there has been no album yet, terry has already won his fans over by his wherewithal to keep the wine of Apala music fresh by merely changing the bottle.

Terry apala’s writing prowess positioned him to work with Annie Macaulay Idibia, to compose a soundtrack for her movie, “Calabar Girls”, while he was with another group called Kabaka. With an undying passion for music, he has been able to put out a collaborative feat with a number of Nigeria’s artistes such as Ice Prince, Olamide,Phyno,Orezi, Suger boy and others, Terry stated that he have a strong passion for music and uniqueness in his kind known as Apala Hip hop.

Terry is currently signed to Nelson Jack music.
