81% of VC firms don’t have a single black investor — BLCK VC plans on changing that

Venture capital has a diversity problem . BLCK VC , a new organization founded by Storm Ventures associate Frederik Groce and NEA associate Sydney Sykes to connect, engage and advance black venture capitalists, is ready for a new era in the industry. Their mission: Turn 200 black investors into 400 black investors by 2024. “We think of ourselves as an organization formed by black VCs for blacks VCs to increase the representation of black investors,” Sykes told TechCrunch. “You can look around and say well ‘I know five black VCs,’ but you can also say this firm does not have a single black VC, they may not even have a single underrepresented minority … We want to make firms reckon with the fact that there is a racial diversity problem; there is a lack of black VCs and every firm should really care about it.” BLCK VC has been at work since the beginning of 2018, building and expanding a network of black investors in the San Francisco area, Los Angeles and New York. The process of founding Covenant University (CU) started in October 1999, one month after the dedication of Faith Tabernacle in Ota, the largest church auditorium in the world. The university is a product of the Liberation Commission and was established by the World Mission Agency and the Living Faith Church Worldwide. Covenant University opened on 21 October 2002 in Canaanland, Ota, with a Pentecostal Christian mission ethos. It was founded by David Oyedepo, the presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, who is chancellor of the university.

 

Admission Requirement


 

Candidate seeking admission into a Degree programme in Covenant University must meet the following requirements

UME

  1. Minimum of Credit passes in Five subjects including English language at ,GCE O’level and any other equivalent examinations at not more than two sittings.

  2. UTME score of at least 200 in all programmes.

  3. Candidates must make Convenant as their first or second choice to qualify to write the Post UTME screening test.

  4. Final selection will be based on the candidate’s average scores from UTME and Post-UTME screening tests.
