81% of VC firms don’t have a single black investor — BLCK VC plans on changing that

Venture capital has a diversity problem . BLCK VC , a new organization founded by Storm Ventures associate Frederik Groce and NEA associate Sydney Sykes to connect, engage and advance black venture capitalists, is ready for a new era in the industry. The Richest tribe in Nigeria

Nigeria is undoubtedly blessed with mineral resources and people with the brains to make things work. There are three major ethnic groups in Nigeria (Hausa, Ibo, and Yoruba) and six geopolitical zones in the country. Abundant mineral resources include limestone, crude oil, coal, and tin. Other resources include food and cash crops such as oil palm, cocoa, groundnut, cassava, plantain e.t.c

We have outlined some of the abundant resources in Nigeria we will now look at the people from different part of the country by region and highlight some individuals who are making good use of their knowledge and resources to put Nigeria in the limelight both in Africa and the world, in general.

Northern Nigeria (Hausa/Fulani)


The Northern region of Nigeria comprises mostly of the Hausa/Fulani Muslims majority and few Christians. The region is known to house a majority of the military base in the countries. The Hausas farm in products such as groundnut, beans, tomatoes, carrot, and rice. The region is also known for rearing animals and is considered the beef hub of Nigeria which is predominantly dominated by the Fulanis who rear goats, sheep, cattle, and rams. Although the region lacks mostly in education it has still been able to produce the richest man in Africa Aliko Dangote (Dangote Group). Other notable people from northern Nigeria are Abdulsalam Rabiu (BUA Group), and Aminu Dantata.

Eastern Nigeria (Ibo)


The region is dominated by the Ibo Christians who in recent times have been claiming marginalization from the current government. The region is notable for been industrious. The region is considered home to made in Nigeria goods such as bags, shoes, clothes and recently automobile. The region is also notable for farming crops such as cassava, oil palm, and yam. The region is home to one of the busiest markets in Africa the Onitsha Main Market located in Anambra State a center for economic activities which also drives commercial and industrial activities in the Region. Notable Patriots from the region are Orji Uzor Kalu, (Slok Holdings), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (World Bank) and Charles Soludo (CBN).

Western Nigeria (Yoruba)


The region is dominated by the Yoruba Christians and Muslims who boast of a rich culture. The region is known to be home to major industries and factories such as food and production industries mostly located in Oyo, Ogun and Lagos State.  The region dominates about 25% of the total population of Nigeria. The region boasts of being the one with the most educated elite which is evident in the number of Professors and educational institution in the region. Resources available in the region include Marble, Iron-ore, Limestone, Bitumen, Cocoa, Kolanut, Tobacco, and Plantain. The region is Home to Billionaires such as Mike Adenuga (Glo), Folorunsho Alakija (Business Tycoon), Femi Otedola (Oil Magnate).

Southern Nigeria (Niger Delta)


The region consists of different ethnic groups with the majority of them Christians. The Bini, Ijaw, Esan, Igala, Urhobo, Efik, Ibibio, ikwerre among others make up this region. The region is known to hold the bulk of Nigeria crude oil which is the countries highest foreign exchange revenue. Other resources available in the region include oil palm, rubber, lead, salt, limestone, lignite among others. The region is also popular for fishing and farming. Although the region produces the crude oil which drives a large percent of Nigeria development but sadly the region is underdeveloped in relation to the abundant resources available in its landmass. The region is home to billionaires and philanthropists which includes Jim Ovia (Zenith Bank), Tony Elumelu (UBA) and Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion (Okada Group).
