81% of VC firms don’t have a single black investor — BLCK VC plans on changing that

Venture capital has a diversity problem . BLCK VC , a new organization founded by Storm Ventures associate Frederik Groce and NEA associate Sydney Sykes to connect, engage and advance black venture capitalists, is ready for a new era in the industry. Their mission: Turn 200 black investors into 400 black investors by 2024. “We think of ourselves as an organization formed by black VCs for blacks VCs to increase the representation of black investors,” Sykes told TechCrunch. “You can look around and say well ‘I know five black VCs,’ but you can also say this firm does not have a single black VC, they may not even have a single underrepresented minority … We want to make firms reckon with the fact that there is a racial diversity problem; there is a lack of black VCs and every firm should really care about it.” BLCK VC has been at work since the beginning of 2018, building and expanding a network of black investors in the San Francisco area, Los Angeles and New York. The Federal University Otuoke (FUO), is one of nine new Federal Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in February 2011.  Located in the heart of the oil-rich Niger-Delta Region of Bayelsa State, the University which is 21 kilometres South of the State capital of Yenagoa, occupies an expanse of 200 hectares (494 acres) in the Ijaw town of Otuoke.

Currently we have two Faculties: Faculty of Humanities/ Social Sciences which has 2 Departments and six programmes, and Faculty of Science which has 3 Departments and six programmes.

Admission Requirements

  1. For a candidate to be offered admission into 100 level of the chosen course in the Institutions, he/she must obtain an acceptable level of performance at the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in subjects relevant to the proposed course/programme of study. All candidates are to note that "Use of English" is mandatory for all courses.



  • Candidate must Satify all the institution and departmental requirements

  • Candidate must have Five (5) credit passes at WAEC/NECO/GCE or equivalent at not more than two sitting.


 

 Note: All applicant seeking provisional Admission at FUOTUOKE must be 16 years of age
