81% of VC firms don’t have a single black investor — BLCK VC plans on changing that

Venture capital has a diversity problem . BLCK VC , a new organization founded by Storm Ventures associate Frederik Groce and NEA associate Sydney Sykes to connect, engage and advance black venture capitalists, is ready for a new era in the industry. Their mission: Turn 200 black investors into 400 black investors by 2024. “We think of ourselves as an organization formed by black VCs for blacks VCs to increase the representation of black investors,” Sykes told TechCrunch. “You can look around and say well ‘I know five black VCs,’ but you can also say this firm does not have a single black VC, they may not even have a single underrepresented minority … We want to make firms reckon with the fact that there is a racial diversity problem; there is a lack of black VCs and every firm should really care about it.” BLCK VC has been at work since the beginning of 2018, building and expanding a network of black investors in the San Francisco area, Los Angeles and New York.  The Eastern Palm University (EPU) is a University established by law (Imo State of Nigeria Law No. 13 of 2016). It was licensed by the NUC (National Universities Commission) in 2016. The university aims to be a world class university anchored on excellence and research needs of all relevant persons, irrespective of gender, nationality, religion or political conviction. The University is structured as a Public/Private Partnership (PPP) model of university.

Admission Requirements



  • The Eastern Palm University (EPU) requires the following for admission into its programmes/courses

  • Applicant must have five credit passes in relevant subjects, at not more two sittings, which must include English language and Mathematics at Ordinary Level (SSCE or NECO) or equivalent qualification from a country that requires other types of end of secondary school exit examinations or standardized tests.

  • An applicant through the UTME should have a score of not less than 180 in the UTME or JAMB’s yearly official cut off score to be considered for admission at the Eastern Palm University.

  • All applicants for direct entry must satisfy any of the following

  • NCE at credit level

  • National Diploma (ND) and approved equivalents with at least Lower Credit in relevant fields/courses

  • At least two Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects at acceptable grade level

  • The interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) or Cambridge moderated School of Basic Studies at acceptable grade levels.

  • In addition to NCE/ND/IJMB, JUPEB or two Advanced Level papers specified by each Faculty or course/programme., candidates must also satisfy the Ordinary Level requirements for the courses/programmes of interest

  • Candidates who did not choose Eastern Palm University in the current year (2017) UTME can apply for admission into the university.

  • Candidates seeking change of institutions can also apply. Candidates applying for change of institutions (Transfer Admissions) need to present JAMB admission letters, transcripts from previous universities and attestation letters
